Nanocomposite Hydrogels Containing Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications

Betreuer: Dr. Kai Zheng, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

In the scope of this thesis nanocomposite hydrogel membranes will be developed for biomedical applications such as bone repair and wound healing. The nanocomposite hydrogels will consist of a biopolymer matrix and mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticle fillers, which will exhibit multifunctional properties, including antibacterial activity [1]. The mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles serving as fillers [2] will be synthesized via a sol-gel approach and combined with a biopolymer, such as chitosan or alginate. The physiochemical and mechanical properties of the resulting membranes will be investigated in order to verify their suitability for biomedical applications.
