Title: Electrospun fibres containing bioactive glass nanoparticles for regenerative medicine

The aim of this Master thesis project based at Polytechnic of Turin, Italy, under supervision of Prof. Enrica Verne, is to create, characterize and optimize the fabrication process of composite electrospun fibers containing bioactive glass nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized at Polytechnic of Turin trying to avoid aggregation, they contain phosphorus, calcium, copper and other biologically active ions to improve their bioactivity. The part of the project to be carried out at the Erlangen Institute of Biomaterials involves the development of the electrospinnng (ES) technique following previous results available [1], focusing on PCL-bioactive glass nanoparticles, to obtain submicrometric composite fibres. The ES parameters of the process will be optimised to enhance the material properties for tissue engineering application.
