Phytotherapeutic and bioactive glass loaded polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) microspheres and their antimicrobial activity

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) based microspheres have long been used in drug delivery applications because of their controlled release capabilities and their native biocompatibility and biodegradation [1]. In this project, natural therapeutic agents instead of synthetic antibiotics, will be used as bioactive compounds to load PHAs microspheres to impart antimicrobial ability. Moreover, bioactive glass particles will be incorporated to enhance the interaction of microspheres with target cells and so to develop a multifunctional material for bone tissue regeneration.
