Development and biological characterisation of organosilane nanofibers

Betreuer in Liberec: Prof. Veronika Makova

Betreuer in Erlangen: Dr. Liliana Liverani, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

This project focuses on the preparation of purely organosilane nanofibers with a variety of unique properties such as thermal resistance, flexibility and non-toxicity in the human body. The aim of the study is to use commercial and synthesized organo-mono-silylated and organo-bis-silylated precursors for the preparation of nanofibers by electrospinning techniques. Fibre production is carried out at Centre for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovations, Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic. In the next phase of the project, being carried at the Institute of Biomaterials in Erlangen, the interactions of organosilane nanofibers with cells will be investigated using tissue engineering methods. The biocompatibility of the novel fibrous structures and their ability to support cell growth will be investigated.
