Bioactive Scaffolds from Preceramic Polymers

Supervisors: Prof. Dušan Galusek, DrSc. (FunGlass. Slovakia), Prof. Enrico Bernardo (University of Padova, Italy)

Supervisor in Erlangen: Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

The present project is being carried out in the framework of the EU-funded (H2020) project FunGlass (Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass) based at Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin. Slovakia. The project involves the fabrication and characterisation of advanced porous bio-ceramic components from preceramic polymers and engineering fillers for biomedical applications, specifically focusing on the development of bioactive silicate-based glass ceramic scaffolds from different silicone resins and fillers using additive manufacturing and foaming technology for bone tissue regeneration.  Particularly, in the FAU Institute of Biomaterials the characterisation of the bioceramic scaffolds in terms of angiogenesis and osteogenesis will be carried out. This part of the project is funded by a mobility fellowship of JECS Trust.
