Electrophoretic deposition of protein coatings on pretreated Magnesium

The aim of this Bachelor project is to produce protein-based coatings on pure magnesium (Mg) via electrophoretic deposition (EPD) in order to control the corrosion and degradation rate . At first, the coatings will be optimized on 316L stainless steel . Several material characterization techniques will be used such as FTIR, SEM, EDX and bend test. After the best parameters have been determined, these will be applied on magnesium to produce crack-free, well-adhered coatings. The Mg substrate will be pretreated prior to EPD. Furthermore, electrochemical measurements will be carried out to determine the corrosion behavior of magnesium before and after the protein coating .
