Organic-inorganic biomedical coatings with antibacterial capability by Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD)

Betreuer: Laura Ramos, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccin

This project investigates the development of biopolymer-bioactive glass biomedical coatings by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) [1]. Protein based coatings [2] can be obtained by EPD from ethanol-water solutions. The optimized coatings will be characterized in terms of adhesion to the substrate, microstructural homogeneity and degradation behavior. In addition, the antibacterial capability of the new coatings, provided by specific compositions of added bioactive glass particles, will be characterized at Department of Health Sciences, University of Piemonte Orientale, Italy, under supervision of Prof. Lia Rimondini.
