Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles for drug delivery application

Supervisors: Zhiyan Xu, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Dendritic mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (DMBGNs) with 3D center-radial channels and hierarchically porous structure are attracting increasing attention due to their open pore nanochannels, highly accessible internal spaces, and large pore volumes for various biomedical applications, especially for drug delivery [1][2]. In this project, DMBGNs will be synthesized applying a protocol developed previously in our Institute. Different biologically functional ions will be incorporated into the nanoparticles by impregnation. Additionally, drug loading and release capacity of DMBGNs will be studied. The physicochemical characterizations, particle size, zeta potential,  remineralization capability of the nanoparticles will be investigated.
