Development and characterization of 3D printed bioactive glass-polymer scaffolds with enhanced bioactivity and drug delivery capability

Kooperationspartner: Zoya Hadzhieva, Marcela Arango-Ospina, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

The project focuses on creating 3D-printed scaffolds comprising mesoporous bioactive glasses, hydrogels and phytotherapeutic agents to address osteomyelitis. The project predicts the conduction of comparative analyses by examining different phytotherapeutic agents, doping ions and pore geometries. Evaluations will be conducted to assess the mechanical properties, agent release profile, antibacterial activity and cell viability and proliferation. The primary goal is to develop scaffolds with dual capability of eliminating bacterial infection while fostering bone regeneration concurrently. The project is carried out in the framework of the ProBrAl program, a collaboration of the FAU Institute of Biomaterials and Brazilian institutions via the sponsoring of CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel).
