This research project is in the general field of development of novel joint prostheses with bone in-growth and osteointegration. For this purpose, composite biodegradable scaffolds with interconnected structure were prepared with PLA and bioactive glass (BG) particles using 3D printing methods. A bone cement can be applied to achieve the connection between bone and joint prosthesis. The bioactivity is provided by the mineralisation capacity of BG and the ability to release locally functional ions. Osteogenesis and angiogenesis should be promoted to achieve better bone in-growth.
