Development of Bioactive glass based scaffolds coated with metal-loaded hydroxyapatite nanocomposites as potential biomaterials for bone tissue repair

The micro- and nano-topographical features of biomaterials can stimulate growth and proliferation of cells. In this research stay, electrospun gelatin methacrylamide mats are characterized biologically and topographically. Electrospun fibers based on natural polymer derivatives were developed at Division of Biomedical Polymers, INTEMA, Mar del Plata (Argentina), led by Dr. Gustavo A. Abraham. These mats were obtained with different patterned topographical features using molds as collector in the electrospinning process. On the other hand, novel scaffolds based on gelatin methacrylamide and alginate for bone tissue engineering will be obtained by 3D printing at the FAU Institute of Biomaterials. The project is carried out in the framework of a research collaboration funded by DAAD and MinCyt (Argentina).
