Mechanical fatigue testing of dental biomaterials

Betreuer: Prof. Ulrich Lohbauer (Research Laboratory for Dental Biomaterials, Dental Clinic 1, University Hospital Erlangen), Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Dental implantology covers a wide range of materials including titanium alloys and bioceramics. Increasingly bioinert ceramics are becoming an attractive, tooth coloured alternative. This Bachelor thesis aims to construct and adapt an already existing testing device according to ISO 14801 according to specific needs in dentistry. The device setup should cover fatigue testing and the interaction between various substrate materials and organic interfaces. The overall result to be achieved is a universal testing device which in the course of this thesis will be validated using dental ceramic implants. The project is being carried out in the Research Laboratory for Dental Biomaterials at the Dental Clinic 1 (Operative Dentistry and Periodontology), University Hospital Erlangen.
